Actor Rajpal Yadav has responded to fellow actor Sonu Sood’s public show of support following his interim bail in a cheque bounce case, clarifying that he does not view himself as someone seeking work. In turn, Sonu has explained that his earlier statement was intended to ensure Rajpal receives the respect and financial backing he merits. Speaking to HT City, Sonu addressed the interpretation of his remarks and said, “Happy for him. I didn’t say he needs work. I said, ‘Sign him and pay advances because he deserves it.’” The actor emphasized that his message was not about suggesting Rajpal was out of opportunities, but rather about encouraging the industry to value and support seasoned talent. The clarification comes after Rajpal, in an earlier interaction with Screen, pushed back against the perception that he required help finding projects. “Please get over the misconception that I need to keep asking for work.
And there is no shame in asking for work. I live through my job, cinema is my passion, and I work in such a way that I get four times more work. I work even on vacations. Work doesn’t find me; it has lived with me for the last 11 years,” he said. Rajpal recently surrendered at Tihar Jail in connection with the cheque bounce case before being granted interim bail. At the time, Sonu had publicly urged members of the film fraternity to stand by him. In a note shared on Instagram Stories, Sonu described Rajpal as a “gifted actor” who has contributed years of memorable performances to the industry. “Sometimes life turns unfair, not because of talent, but because timing can be brutal. He will be part of my film, and I believe this is the moment for all of us — producers, directors, colleagues — to stand together,” Sonu had written. With both actors now clarifying their positions, the exchange underscores mutual respect while highlighting the broader conversation around solidarity and dignity within the film industry.
