Arun and Kajal first met as colleagues at a nursing home in Gurugram. Spending long hours together at work, their professional relationship soon turned into a close friendship, eventually leading to marriage in November last year. What began as a promising relationship, however, quickly deteriorated into a pattern of abuse.
According to Kajal’s family, Arun began physically assaulting her soon after the wedding. They alleged that he frequently harassed her over dowry demands and pressured her to bring money. Kajal’s brother stated that she endured repeated abuse over trivial issues, pointing to a disturbing history of domestic violence.
On March 4, during Holi, the couple moved into Kajal’s family home in Gurugram’s Garhi Harsaru area. Nearly two weeks later, on March 17, the situation escalated. Arun, reportedly under the influence of alcohol, assaulted Kajal again.
The following morning, he allegedly took her downstairs for a conversation, which soon turned into a heated argument. Shortly after, Kajal was found unconscious and bleeding from her nose. Her family rushed her to a nearby hospital, but doctors declared her dead on arrival.
Suspicion deepened when family members discovered a syringe in the house. They alleged that Arun had injected Kajal with a poisonous substance. During police interrogation, Arun confessed to administering a toxic injection, which led to her death.
Police officials confirmed that the accused was arrested from a railway station. He is a resident of Behta Hajipur in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad and reportedly has a history of substance abuse. “Arun was arrested and will remain in police custody for three days,” said the Station House Officer of Sector 10 Police Station.
Meanwhile, doctors who conducted the post-mortem examination stated that the exact cause of death will be confirmed after the viscera report is analyzed. The case has once again highlighted the persistent issue of dowry-related violence and domestic abuse in society.
